Time Flies Posted on February 8, 2015 by Nate.
I can’t believe it’s already been an entire year that Kade has been on this earth! I look back at the previous 12 months and it has really been a roller coaster. The sleepless nights, the shooting geysers of pee, the endless list of rashes and the mountains of poop we have had to deal with have been rough. With all of that aside, I truly can not imagine my life without this little dude. Sure, our late nights consist of watching Netflix and drinking sometimes solo. But the party scene was the easiest to give up with this little guy. Our parties now consist of every toy imaginable spread out across the living room floor. Balls rolling all around and an irritated cat from playing “tag you’re it”.
As a Dad, I feel that the first months of a child’s first year are not that exciting. I am constantly awaiting the next “milestone achievement” badge. Now as we approach the walking phase, I am giddy to start doing fun things with the lil dude. I am also anxious to start hearing the first words that Kade will say. It’s the stepping stone to being able to truly communicate with him. Of course, we have been doing what we can to try and express communication through sign language and pointing to things while saying their name, but the thought of actually being able to hold a conversation with my son keeps opening anticipation for what’s to come.
The wifey keeps reminding me that I shouldn’t always be rushing to the next step in development. And yes, they do grow up so fast. So maybe I need to work on being patient and enjoying the times that we have now instead of always looking ahead. I guess that’s a flaw I have, but I’m just too damn excited for the new opportunities that come as they grow up.
With that said, this next year, my goal is to slow down. I should be enjoying the times now because one day I may just look back and wish we were at this stage again. So, Kade, no rush buddy! I’ll be right here enjoying you as you are now, while still patiently waiting for our new steps together. Happy Birthday!
